THE RUPEE: dollar turns mixed

Mixed trend was again witnessed on the currency market on Saturday in process of trading, dealers said. The rupee shed five paisa against dollar for buying at 85.80 and lost four paisa for selling at 85.84, they said. At the weekend the US dollar pared gains against euro after the head of the European Central Bank said euro zone recovery was on track, but an improving economic outlook should keep the greenback firm.

The currency dealers mentioned that dollar showed strength and improved its worth in local kerb on account of fresh buying support. The dollar resumed trading at Rs 85.50 and Rs 85.75, as its buying and selling rates, respectively and closed with appreciation in its worth on both counters at Rs 85.60 and Rs 85.80, respectively, they added.
On the contrary, the Pak rupee gained strength against the Pound Sterling on buying side, while remained unchanged on selling side. The Pound was purchased and sold at Rs 134.50 and Rs 135.50, as compared to overnight closing of Rs 134.80 and Rs 135.50, respectively, the dealers said.
The dollar resumed trading at Rs 85.50 (buying) and Rs 85.60 (selling) against the rate of Rs 86.20 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling). It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 85.50 (buying) and Rs 85.60 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 136.20 (buying) and Rs 136.60 (selling) in the morning session. It did not observe further change in the last trading hours and closed at Rs 136.20 (buying) and Rs 136.60 (selling).
