15 Dec, 2010

Value added knitwear exporters all over the Punjab have condemned the gas load shedding for industry, fearing that as it would lead to unemployment and failure on export commitments from Pakistan. Chaudhry Salamat Ali, Chairman Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers and Exporters Association said the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) has failed to honour the ECC schedule of twice a week load shedding. He termed it as discriminatory for Punjab industry.
He said the Knitwear export sector employs about one million workers and is largest foreign exchange sector for country and the export orders in hand worth million of dollars are at a stake. Moreover, he added, the country image to honour commitments will ruin if our exporters do not deliver goods to their buyers on time. Chairman PHMA deplored that concerned authorities are looking least bothered about this national crisis and warned of severe action after Ashura if gas is not supplied to industry immediately.
