17 Dec, 2010

Law enforcement agencies forcibly lifted around 150 public transporter vehicles illegally two days earlier for maintaining security situation during main Ashura processions by starting possession from 7th Moharram in order to curb any possible mishap by placing them at MA Jinnah Road and its intersections.
Talking to Business Recorder here on Thursday, President Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) Syed Irshad Hussain Bukhari said the numbers of lifted vehicles by police are around 150, as transporters had left no option but chose to withdraw their vehicles from the streets since Muharram 8.
According to him, last year law enforcement agencies lifted our vehicles but on main Ashura procession our 50 vehicles were burnt after terrorist strike in the city and neither any compensation was given to the transporters in this regard despite spending the whole year as it is the responsibility of the government to protect the vehicles which are actually livelihood of the transporters.
President KTI said the present year the police started the occupation of vehicles from the Moharram of 7, two days earlier from the main procession-days and these vehicles would be released on Friday evening after finishing main procession taken by police.
