Google isn't the only way to search for information online. Its two biggest competitors - Yahoo and Bing - offer results of a similar quality, according to a German organisation.
"The search engines operate using different methods, but there is no qualitative difference between the results," Wolfgang Sander- Beuermann, head of the Association for Free Access to Knowledge (SUMA-eV), told the German Press Agency dpa.
SUMA-eV recommends that computer users regularly try different search engines or use meta search engines like Metager, which allows multiple search engines to get hits simultaneously.
The website blindsearch.fejus.com offers, as the name suggests, blind tests search engines, comparing results from Google, Yahoo and Microsoft's Bing side by side. Users are then asked to rank which results are most relevant to the search. Only then is it revealed which search engine's results are which. The site was developed by a Microsoft employee in his free time.
