Beggars occupy Melody Food Park

20 Dec, 2010

Professional beggars are occupying Melody Food Park of federal capital due to the dereliction of the concerned authorities. Beggars of every age group can be seen moving freely under the nose of the federal police at public places - bus stands, traffic crossings, hotels, food streets and hospitals.
The beggars can be seen fully committed to their work in alm seeking from the shoppers even from the people busy in lunch or dinner inside the food park and the authorities are failed to control recent surge in the activities of the beggars.
The restaurant owners also never discourage these beggars which create hurdles for the people in the famous Melody Food Park.
"Every person should extend financial support to the needy, but these professional beggars not only exploit common people, but sometimes threaten them with their bizarre behaviour," said Zulfikar Ali, a frequent visitor of Melody Food Park.
Another visitor Arif Khan said that beggars especially children and women become insensitive to repeated refusals of the shoppers and you cannot avoid them unless they are paid according to their wishes.
The issue of beggary has been acknowledged, as a problem by the concerned authorities-past and present-but unfortunately no concrete step has so far been taken to combat this lingering problem, disfiguring the whole face of the society.
