Supreme Court summons former MPA in fraud case

21 Dec, 2010

A full bench of the Supreme Court here Monday summoned former MPA Mian Shahbaz on alleged financial irregularities and fraud with a citizen Azeem Ullah Khan in Vince Housing Society. Bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday, remarked that Lahore Development Authority (LDA) collect money from the people in the name of societies but masses get nothing in return.
Justice Jawwad Khawaja said people believe in LDA and invest their hard-earned money. Therefore, it is LDA's duty to discharge its obligation. He said Shahbaz had committed fraud with people but no one had taken action against him. LDA's counsel said, they are ready to fulfil the contracts with allottees if permission is granted to auction mortgaged plots. The court, however, adjourned hearing for December 23 with strict direction to Mian Shahbaz to appear before court on next date of hearing.
