Afghan DPs given three-day deadline

The political administration of Khyber Agency Tuesday gave a three-day deadline to illegally residing Afghan refugees in Landi Kotal area to leave the area otherwise strict action would be taken against them. Talking to reporters, the Assistant Political Agent (APA), Landi Kotal, Iqbal Khattak said that the personnel of the traditional Khasadar Force have been deployed on the hilltops to thwart the nefarious designs of militants and terrorists.
The deadline, he said, has been given to Afghan refugees in wake of the security measures taken by the government after attacks on the tankers supplying oil to Nato led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan in Landi Kotal area of the Khyber Agency.
On the expiry of the deadline, the houses of the illegally residing Afghan refugees would be dismantled," warned the political official. The Khasadar Force has been deployed on mountains and hilltops of Landi Kotal and patrolling of troops have been intensified in Landi Kotal to further tightened security. The administration has also imposed ban on pillion ridding in Landi Kotakl City and adjacent areas connecting Khyber Agency with Afghanistan.
Furthermore, eight suspects have been arrested by Khasadar Force and anti-social elements have been warned of strict action. The political administration has extended search operation to mountains of Landi Kotal. The law and order situation is gradually improving in Landi Kotal and elements found guilty even in petty crimes would be brought to justice. The Landi Kotal's top administrator said the action has been taken to secure Pak-Afghan Torkhum Highway as it has great importance in regional trade.
