BB killing case: two former police officers held from courtroom

23 Dec, 2010

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested former City Police Officer (CPO) Saud Aziz and former SP of Rawal Town Khurram Shahzad from the courtroom in Benazir assassination case, after cancellation of their interim bail. The two police officers were given into the custody of FIA, which would interrogate them for 24 hours, as they would be presented before a court for further physical remand.
The Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) No-III, Rawalpindi Judge Rana Nisar Ahmed resumed hearing in Benazir case in high security Central Jail, Adiala, on Wednesday. The FIA's prosecution submitted a provisional interim challan of the alleged murder case in which it held the two police officers responsible for washing the crime scene. The FIA raised two points during the hearing on Wednesday: i)'Why the persons deputed on former prime minister's security were removed from the scene'? and ii)'Why did the post-mortem was not conducted'?
Benazir was killed when she was leaving after addressing an election rally at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi on December 27, 2007. The FIA team pleaded before the court that Saud Aziz and Khurram Shahzad were facing serious allegations, and requested for cancellation of their interim bail.
The judge accepted the plea of FIA and cancelled bail of both police officers who were arrested from the courtroom after court orders. The defence counsel submitted a statement attributed to President Asif Ali Zardari about not conducting post mortem. Judge Rana Nisar Ahmed on December 19, 2010 had extended the date of interim bail of former CPO and former SP Rawal Town.
