Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran has impressed upon the younger generation to devote themselves to acquisition of knowledge and promotion of research pursuits in order to contribute to the task of nation building and freeing Pakistan from the dominance and dependence of advanced western countries.
He was addressing a delegation of 30 top position holder male and female students from the provinces of Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkwa during their visit to the Punjab University New Campus here on Friday. The gold winning students are on a Inter-Provincial tour on the invitation of the Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif for promoting inter-provincial harmony.
The Vice-Chancellor advised the students that instead of becoming a routine doctor, engineer or bureaucrat, they should go into research to effectively compete in the international arena during their professional life. He said the Muslims have closed the door of research and education for the last over hundred years with the result that all the modern inventions and discoveries for the benefit of mankind have been accomplished by advanced countries.
It is now widely recognised that good quality education is a powerful instrument for transforming a society because, only educated and skilled people can guarantee economic success as well as political and cultural development of a nation, he added. The current phenomenal economic superiority and military supremacy of leading global powers is closely linked to their advancement in research and knowledge. He said in this connection highly qualified and experience faculty is critical to inspire and prepare students in their educational career.
