'Free education helps develop humanity'

The provision of free education to both male and female child helps develop the individual, the family, the society and the humanity as a whole.
It is prime responsibility of the state to impart education to children for their mental and physical development and eliminate child labour from the Society, Director ILO, Donglin Li, said while speaking at a function held under the aegis of Pakistan Workers Federation at Bakhtiar Hall here on Sunday.
International Labour Organisation (ILO) has been helping government of Pakistan to bring out children from worst kind of labour in accordance with ILO Convention No 182 and 138 ratified by Government of Pakistan, he said.
Khurshid Ahmad, General Secretary, Pakistan Workers Federation on the occasion stated that rising poverty and employment were the main causes behind ther child labour, adding that 61 percent in the country did not get education beyond primary due to poverty.
He underlined the need to implement the right to education, stating that it is the fundamental duty of the government to move in this direction.
He applauded the services of Donglin Li, Director ILO, during his last seven year stay in Pakistan. A large number of labour activists of the country participated in the function.
