Obama, Ban, Karzai condemn WFP centre attack

US President Barack Obama on Saturday strongly condemned the "outrageous" terrorist attack in Khar tribal area and reaffirmed his administration's support for Pakistan's peace and security efforts for its people.
"I strongly condemn the outrageous terrorist attack in Khar. Killing innocent civilians outside a World Food Programme distribution point is an affront to the people of Pakistan, and to all humanity," he said in a statement released by the White House.
Reports said the suicide bombing in Khar, the headquarters of Bajaur Agency, claimed more than 43 lives. "The United States stands with the people of Pakistan in this difficult time, and will strongly support Pakistan's efforts to ensure greater peace, security and justice for its people," Obama added.
On the other hand UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon spokesman said that Ban was "appalled" by an attack outside a UN food agency centre in Pakistan that killed at least 43 people.
Ban "unequivocally condemns this abhorrent act of terrorism aimed at innocent people," the spokesman said in a statement.
Pakistan's first known case of a female suicide attack targeted a World Food Programme distribution point in Khar. The UN statement said there were 45 dead while officials in the region said there were at least 43 dead.
"The secretary general conveys his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims," added the UN statement.
A statement issued from President Karzai's spokesman office in Kabul said that President Karzai had urged Islamabad to "spare no effort in eliminating" those responsible for a suicide attack on a World Food Programme project.
Karzai also stressed the need for the two countries to work together on boosting efforts against violent extremism in the aftermath of Saturday's attack in the lawless Bajaur Agency.
"I strongly condemn this attack and I ask the Pakistani government to spare no efforts in eliminating these terrorists," the statement said. "The Bajaur agency terrorist attack once again reveals the true face of those who have no other motive but shedding blood and causing terror." The president also "emphasised strengthening joint efforts (with Pakistan) in the war against terrorism," the statement added.
