THE RUPEE: minor fluctuations

Steady trend was seen on the currency market as the rupee managed to hold its overnight level in relation to dollar, dealers said. The rupee was up by one paisa versus dollar for buying at 85.84 while it shed same amount for selling at 85.89, they said.
The Swiss franc held near a record high against euro and dollar as investors sought refuge from euro zone debt, while dollar threatened to break below a familiar range against yen, another currency that tends to gain from risk-aversion.interbank forex, interest rates
Interbank buy/sell rates for taka against dollar on Wednesday: 70.74/70.75 (previous 70.72/70.72) Call Money Rates: 14.00-20.00 percent (previous 5.50-22.50 percent). The yuan closed up slightly against dollar on Wednesday and appeared to be set for a new leg of measured appreciation after the People's Bank of China fixed its mid-point near a record high for the second day.
The PBOC set the day's mid-point against dollar, from which yuan can rise or fall 0.5 percent in a given day, at 6.6247, up slightly from Tuesday's 6.6252 and just shy of a record high of 6.6239 on November. 12.

According to the moneychangers, the dollar commenced trading at Rs 85.65 and Rs 85.85, as its buying and selling rates, respectively. At the end of trading, the dollar could not sustain on account of lacking buying support and declined to Rs 85.60 and Rs 85.80 on buying and selling counters, respectively, they added.
Likewise, the pound sterling remained under pressure in the open market. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 131.50 and Rs 132.50, as compared to overnight closing of Rs 132.00 and Rs 133.00, respectively, the moneychangers added.
The dollar resumed trading at Rs 85.55 (buying) and Rs 85.80 (selling) against the rate of Rs 86.20 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling). It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 85.55 (buying) and Rs 85.80 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 136.20 (buying) and Rs 136.70 (selling) in the morning session. It did not observe further change in the last trading hours and closed at Rs 136.20 (buying) and Rs 136.70 (selling).
