Emergency plan to eradicate polio finalised: minister

30 Dec, 2010

Federal Minister for Health Makhdoom Shahab Uddin has said that emergency plan has been finalised to eradicate polio from the country once for all. The Minister on Wednesday joined the vaccination campaign of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) at F-7 Markaz Jinnah Super Market and administered anti-polio drops to children below five years.
The ITP personnel spent a hectic day on city roads by administering anti-polio drops to the children aimed at introducing soft and friendly policing, besides marshalling traffic in the city.
United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (Unicef) and Ministry of Health have helped the ITP in setting up a network of vaccination points. He said that Fata would also be focused under the plan, while districts administration would be the main stakeholder for the success of the plan.
He appreciated ITP for joining hands for the cause and said that such gestures help inculcate friendly police culture too. The ITP is participating in the anti-polio campaign in collaboration with international bodies under the slogan 'lets kick polio out of Islamabad', said Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Dr Moeen Masood, while talking to media during the drive.
