NAB files reference against former postmaster

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Punjab on Wednesday filed a reference in the Accountability Court Lahore against an ex-postmaster, Bilal Town Office, for misappropriation of Rs 3,269,090. According to the reference, an investigation was authorised by the NAB against the accused Irvah Hussain Shah on a complaint filed by the Post Office Department Lahore.
It revealed during investigation that the Pakistan Baitul Maal Department under its Food Support Programme provided list of 533 deserving people to the Post Office Department for the disbursement out of funds allocated by Pakistan Baitul Maal. However, the accused Irvah Hussain Shah while posted as a Postmaster, Post Office Bilal Town, Lahore, illegally and by misuse of authority opened and operated 981 bogus and fake accounts, in addition to the authorised accounts. The accused also misappropriated receipts on account of Provincial Taxes ie Arms Licenses, Driving Licenses and Motor Vehicle Taxes.
