President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday night discussed the current situation as well matters pertaining to the coalition partners in the province with senior members of the Sindh Cabinet and the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leaders.
A statement issued here said that the meeting was attended by Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Senior Minister Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq, Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza, Local Bodies Minister Agha Siraj Durrani, Law Minister Ayaz Soomro, Irrigation Minister Jam Saifullah Dharejo and Presidential Spokesperson Farhatullah Babar.
It said that the meeting discussed in depth the coalition matters. The President emphasised the need for pursuing the policy of reconciliation and mutual accommodation. He also called for addressing the concerns of the MQM and expressed the hope that the recent incidents of tension would not be allowed to adversely impact on the relations between coalition partners.
He said that the challenges faced by the country and Sindh province were too big and no single political party could handle them effectively. It is, therefore, greater need for mutual tolerance and accommodation, he said. The President also advised the Sindh ministers to refrain from issuing provocative statements.
