Power shortfall reduced marginally to 2,600MW on Thursday against 3,000MW earlier, as the gap between demand and supply came down with an increase in power generation. However, persistent shortfall has been hitting the economic activity badly in the country as repeated power breakdowns have left industrial activity in the lurch.
Both large-scale manufacturing industry and cottage industry are facing an awkward situation due to the shortage of electricity and gas. Power generation stands at 10,032MW against a demand of 12,647MW, reducing shortfall to 2,615MW. Power generation through hydel remains 2,243MW, followed by 1,409MW through thermal, 6,318MW through IPPs and 62MW through RPPs. Supply to the KESC stands at 690MW.
