In a move to avoid any untoward incident during new year celebrations, the Sindh government on Friday imposed ban on carrying weapons, under Section 144. According to a notification issued by the Sindh government on Friday, the said restriction, which was effective from midnight of December 31, 2010, would continue till next noon.
Moreover it said that informal gatherings at public places, aerial firing and use of fire crackers are also prohibited under section 144. The provincial government has also directed Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) to carry out strict snap checking during the period to rule out all possibilities of terrorism.
When contacted, an official spokesman of Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) said the rangers have deployed additional personnel for new year night. While more than the routine patrolling has already been started to maintain peace in the city, he added. He said that violators of section 144 during the period would be handed over to Police, after taking in custody.
