A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) led by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operation of Islamabad Police Bani Ameen Khan was constituted to probe into the assassination of Salmaan Taseer, Governor Punjab on Tuesday. A case was registered in Kohsar Police Station and the JIT arrested six Elite Force officials including the main accused Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, who showered bullets on Taseer in Kohsar Market of Federal Capital's posh area located in high security Red Zone.
Besides, Bani Ameen Khan, the team comprises representatives of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Special Branch and other intelligence agencies probing the high-profile murder. Four brothers of Mumtaz Hussain Qadri were also arrested from their Bhara Kahu residence. They were identified as Dilpazeer, Safeer and Fazal, sources privy to JIT told this scribe. They said that Qadri, the main accused was arrested from the scene and has confessed to killing of Salmaan Taseer during the preliminary investigation. They said that he is being interrogated along with other detained persons.
