The Drug Enforcement Cell (DEC) of Pakistan Customs on Friday foiled a bid to smuggle about 2-kg of white heroin to Bangladesh and Cyprus and arrested the drug trafficker. The DEC staff intercepted a passenger Muhammad Haider at international departure hall of the Jinnah International Airport, Karachi when he came there to take Bangladesh Airlines Flight BG-032 for Dhaka.
A thorough search of his baggage led to the recovery of 1.5kgs fine quality white heroin that was concealed in the especially built cavities of his suitcase. Interestingly, the passenger had kept prayer rugs and rosaries in the suitcase to misguide the Customs staff.
In another instance, the Customs DEC staff intercepted an outward international parcel at Karachi GPO. The parcel was booked from Peshawar for an address in Cyprus and contained winter garments. Upon thorough search, the Customs staff recovered about 350 grams heroin, which was sewn inside a leather jacket. Consequent upon recovery and seizure of heroin, the passenger leaving for Dhaka has been arrested and a prosecution case under Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997 has been registered against the sender.-PR
