THE RUPEE: dollar slips marginally

The rupee sustained its overnight firmness against dollar, it, however, maintained its rise versus euro on the currency market on Saturday, dealers said. The rupee inched up with a gain of one paisa against dollar at 85.75 for buying and rose by three paisa for selling at 85.77, they said.
Talk the Swiss National Bank had excluded from eligibility the use of Portuguese bonds as collateral for bank loans weighed on the euro. Fears persisted even after the Swiss National Bank said that was not the case.

The dollar maintained its upward slide on account of buying support, said the currency dealers. The dollar resumed trading at Rs 85.70 and Rs 85.86, as its buying and selling rates and ended with marginal improvement on both sides, as it was closed at Rs 85.75 and Rs 86.00, respectively, they added.
Likewise, the Pak rupee also remained under pressure against the pound sterling. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 132.33 and Rs 133.50, as compared to overnight closing at Rs 132.30 and Rs 133.00, respectively, the dealers said.
The dollar resumed trading at Rs 85.55 (buying) and Rs 85.80 (selling) against last rate of Rs 86.20 (buying) and Rs 86.30 (selling). It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 85.55 (buying) and Rs 85.80 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 136.20 (buying) and Rs 136.70 (selling) in the morning session. It did not observe further change in the last trading hours and closed at Rs 136.20 (buying) and Rs 136.70 (selling).
