At least 14 former Guatemalan paramilitaries were killed and 30 injured on Saturday when their bus fell into a ravine west of the capital, authorities said. The vehicle's brakes failed and the bus plunged about 165 feet (50 metres) into a ravine, a fire department spokesman said.
The former paramilitaries were taking part in a reforesting project conceived as a work program for those involved in the country's civil war that pitted a succession of right-wing governments against leftist insurgents from 1960-1996.
