Clashes between Misseriya Arabs and Ngok Dinka in the disputed district of Abyei on the border between north and south Sudan killed at least eight people, sources on both sides said on Sunday.
Misseriya Arab tribal chief Hamid Abdul Ansari said the Dinka had killed eight of his men in a dispute over watering rights on Sunday. A Dinka leader said nine of his people had been killed since Friday.
"This morning the Dinka refused to let our cows go to the river and drink water," Abdul Ansari said. "We lost eight men and 20 were injured and we destroyed them completely," he said. A Dinka leader confirmed there had been clashes on Sunday and said nine of his people had been killed in fighting since Friday.
