Hundreds of Bangladeshis illegally employed in Nepal's capital will be deported, officials said Monday. Police said the migrants were being taken to Gulf countries by human traffickers who abandoned them. The revelation came after the arrest of alleged smuggler Sheikh Abdul Alam, 35.
More than 400 Bangladeshis are illegally employed in Kathmandu in menial labour and at construction sites, police said. The immigration department said it was preparing to deport them because they entered the country on tourist visas.
