The steering committee for Saarc businessmen conclave is scheduled to meet on January 15, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Saarc Chamber of Commerce and Industry is organising the businessmen conclave. A three-member Saarc chamber delegation, comprising immediate past president Tariq Sayeed, co-vice-president Iftikhar Ali Malik and secretary general Iqbal Tabish is flying from Karachi to Dhaka Bangladesh on Saturday for representing Pakistani businessmen at the conclave.
Business leaders' conclave is Saarc Chamber of Commerce and Industry's prominent venture and meant for bringing businessmen of Saarc region at one forum and provide them opportunity to exchange ideas and prospects with each other for more trade and businesses in the region.
The slogan of the business leaders' conclave is 'where business grow, explore new venture.' It is more than a conclave as it also brings policy-makers and leading business leaders at one place. The last business leaders' conclave was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on November 23 -24. Bangladeshi president will inaugurate the business leaders' conclave. Commerce Minister Mukhdoom Amin Fahim is likely to lead the Pakistani delegation for Saarc business leaders' conclave.
Referring to Dhaka steering committee Iftikhar Ali Malik said other than suggesting ways and means for promoting investment and trade in Saarc region the business leaders' conclave will focus on seven key agenda items. These agenda items include global financial crisis and its impact on Asian economies, addressing climate changes and food securities challenges in south Asia and trade facilitation and regional connectivity, he added.
Other two agenda items of the meeting are trade in services, prospects and challenges for regional integration and creating synergies for enhanced regional co-operation. He said Saarc region was blessed with unprecedented potential of more trade and businesses and Dhaka business leaders' conclave will be a great opportunity for the regional traders and industrialists to take potential benefits.
The steering committee will make a final list of the speakers, participants and policy-makers for making Dhaka business leaders' conclave a success. He said around 80 Pakistani business leaders had participated in Sri Lankan business leaders' conclave and now for Dhaka business leaders' conclave will be attended by over 100 Pakistani business leaders.
