In a bid to enhance investigation skills of officers/officials of Islamabad Police, a capacity building programme was arranged to improve the investigation techniques of cops. Syed Tayyab, a well-known lawyer and prosecutor delivered the lecture about use of modern techniques in investigation.
"Using modern investigation techniques may have helped avoid the escape of terrorists from court punishment," Syed Tayyab said. He said there must be an Anti-terrorist Squad to handle cases of terrorism, which should consist of the trained police officials to the level of Inspector or above and other law enforcers. "The menace of terrorism can be only rooted out through organised manner, collecting tangible evidences and equipping law enforcers on modern lines," he maintained.
Tayyab said there must be reforms in criminal laws and period of terrorists' remand should be extended for conducting successful investigation. He stressed for effective co-ordination among all law enforcement agencies for successful trial of criminals. Lecture was arranged to look into the matter as why terrorists escape from punishment and discuss methods for improving investigation techniques.
Flaws into the investigation process and ability of policemen in handling terrorism cases were also discussed and it was agreed to continue the capacity building programmes in future so as to equip police on modern lines. The training session was attended by Sub-Division Police Officers (SDPOs), Station House Officers (SHOs) of the Capital Police, officers from Investigation Wing and others.
