70 suspects held, arms recovered

Islamabad Police arrested over 70 suspects and five outlaws during search operations in different areas of the Federal Capital and recovered illicit arms and drugs from their possession. The police kicked off search operations against the suspected persons and started screening of houses, workshops, parking areas, markets, under construction buildings and residential areas of the capital, said a spokesman of Islamabad Police here on Wednesday.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan had issued instructions to Superintendent of Police (SP) Rural Umer Hyat to conduct search operation in Koral and adjacent areas. The team led by DSP Rural Sardar Babar Mumtaz, DSP Arshad Ali Khokhar conducted search operations in Khana, Sohan, Iqbal Town, Shakrial, Ghori Town, Sangam Town and Khana Dak and other adjacent area, the spokesman said.
He said that besides the police contingents, bomb disposal squad, police commandos and lady police were taking part in the search operation. The Police team arrested 63 suspected persons during the operation in area falling in jurisdiction of Koral and Shehzad Town Police Stations, he added.
Shehzad Town Police arrested 45 suspects, Koral police arrested 18 persons and further investigation is underway from them. Likewise, Shalimar police arrested four suspects and Sihala police arrested three suspects, while 10 motorbikes were also impounded, as motorcyclists could not prove their ownership.
Meanwhile, Tarnol police arrested Abdul Rehman and Tahir and recovered 2.5kg hashish, three nine MM pistols, 90 rounds, while Shehzad town arrested two outlaws identified Tahir and Ghulam Mustafa for having two pistols. Bhara Kahu police arrested Amrez for having three wine bottles, while a corolla car (LOX-0031) with cut and weld chassis number impounded by Margallah police station.
The SSP has said that the search operation would continue in coming days and complete combing would be made of sensitive as well as suspected areas. He said that it is the prime responsibility of the police to remain vigilant and make every possible step for ensuring peace in the city.
