Latif Khosa's appointment: JI criticises PML-N for accepting decision

14 Jan, 2011

The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief, Syed Munnawar Hasan, has said that had Punjab's rulers been against corruption, they would not have silently accepted Latif Khosa, who had been twice dismissed on corruption charges, as governor. The Prime Minister had dismissed Latif Khosa twice on corruption charges and the PML (N), accepting him as governor, negated his party's stance, he said while talking to media after addressing the five-day JI training programme participants in Mansoora.
He said the responsibility for Salman Taseer's murder rests with the rulers who neither removed him from his office nor could convince him to hold his tongue from talking on the sensitive issue of Prophet (SAW)'s sanctity. Hasan said that brave and unarmed Afghans have defeated the US and its allies and the US leadership should see the writing on the wall. He said it is difficult for the Nato forces to get out of Afghanistan alive for which they are planning. He further said that the pro-West secular lobby in the country is against both Islam and Pakistan, adding that this lobby is now active against Pakistan's Islamic identity.
Reiterating JI stance that the war against terror is actually a war the US, Israel and India started against the Muslim world, he said it is not Pakistan's war. Therefore, Pak Army should distance itself from it to protect country's independence and sovereignty.
He observed that the US drones are killing Afghans in the northern belt and those, who are safe from drones, have fallen victims to the military operation. Slating ANP policies, the JI chief said it always sided with anti-Islam forces who have been killing Pushtoons. Thousands of Pushtoons were killed during the ANP rule but instead of raising voice for them and lodging protest on army operation, the ANP was supporting the killers. At the time of independence, ANP leadership sided with Gandhi. Later, when Russia attacked Afghanistan, the party stood on Russia's side, and now it was a US ally, he maintained.
He said that Pak Army and government are fully aware of India's game in Balochistan but no measures are being taken regarding the matter. There is great harassment among the Baloch people as target killing is going on but the rulers are maintaining a criminal silence. He pointed out that a Major General was on record to have said that India is weakening Pakistan with US support.
Touching the missing peoples issue, Hasan said the families of missing persons are running from pillar to post in search of their dear ones but the rulers are least bothered about them. Over 300 women besides thousands of children have been missing and the government is giving no weight to the court orders on this score, he added.
