An election tribunal headed by a judge of Lahore High Court here Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking disqualification of PML-Q MNA, Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat. The tribunal, while dismissing the petition, observed that the petitioner could not establish her case against the MNA in the court.
The election petition was filed by Begum Abida Hussain who had lost election against Faisal Saleh Hayat in 2008 from the constituency of NA-88, Jang-III. She submitted in her petition that Hayat did not qualify to be a member of national assembly on the grounds that he did not fulfil requirements of Article 62 and 63 of the constitution, which requires every member to be honest. She alleged the respondent of rigging in elections and pointed out that he was a bank defaulter and thus was not eligible to contest election.
Abida Hussain requested the court to disqualify the respondent as he violated election laws and created a law and order situation in the constituency on polling day. After hearing both parties, Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed dismissed the petition.
