Roadmap devised to deal with energy issue

Punjab Industrial Estates Development and Management Company (PIEDMC) has decided to collaborate with Netherlands Cleaner Production Institute (CPI) for integrated audit and implementation of cleaner and energy efficiency technologies. The decision to this effect was taken at a daylong workshop held at Sundar Industrial Estate. During the workshop, a roadmap was also devised to deal with the energy-related problems being faced by the industrialists in the country particularly by the PIEDMC.
It was suggested in the roadmap that research and development should be promoted to explore the alternative energy resources. It was further proposed that most suitable and viable energy resources should be utilised by the industrialists for their power generation. First Secretary (Environment & Water) Development Co-operation from Embassy of Kingdom of Netherlands William Cools was the chief guest while Ahmad Rafi, Chairman Environmental Steering Committee Sundar Industrial Estate chaired the session.
The workshop discussed 2nd phase of Cleaner Technology Programme during 2010-13 under the title of Programme for Sustainable Industrial Estates (PSIE). Important activities and outputs of PSIE including integrated audit and implementation of Cleaner Technology and Energy Efficiency Technologies, implementation of Environmental Management System and ISO 14001 certification, design and implementation of Wastewater Treatment Plant, dissemination and communication programmes of knowledge based and information, training and human resource development and development of sustainability framework were also discussed. During the session, participants shared their views and thoughts regarding developing a sustainability framework for Sundar Industrial Estate. Industrialists, experts and other stakeholders attended the workshop.
