The Lahore High Court here on Wednesday reserved its verdict in a petition challenging construction of Benazir Bhutto's memorial in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi. The court was hearing a petition filed by a lawyer Feroz Shah Gillani against construction of monument of Benazir Bhutto at Liaquat Bagh at a cost of Rs 1 billion from national exchequer.
Deputy Attorney General Naveed Inayat Malik submitted a report of federal secretary law which said that Benazir Bhutto was a personality of international fame and was a national hero. She embraced martyrdom while struggling for democracy, that is why her memorial was being built from national kitty at the place where she was martyred. The petitioner counsel said Benazir Bhutto was a leader of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and not a national hero and if PPP had any desire to make her monument the party should build it from its own funds.
