Partly Facetious: Prime Minister excavates a tunnel for parliamentarians

21 Jan, 2011

"So while the country bleeds the Prime Minister considered it appropriate to inaugurate a luxury apartment building for parliamentarians and excavate a tunnel for them..."
"Ah, the word tunnel evokes so many images."
"If you are going to tell me that rats live in a tunnel then I would agree but don't forget tunnels are also known as legitimate bastions of defence for the armed forces engaged in war."
"I see, so you reckon that the ongoing war on terror justifies the very expensive tunnel?"
"Well, yes and I know you will say that parliamentarians are not fighting any war..."
"Salmaan Taseer was murdered."
"But he was murdered by his guard. Do you think this tunnel won't be staffed by state appointed elite force?"
"So what exactly are you saying?"
"I want to tell this Prime Minister that the number of decisions he is taking that cost the exchequer billions of rupees need to be stopped or at best delayed."
"Be it in appointments or be it in these silly projects that he proudly inaugurates?"
"Right, or be it the decision to raise the salary of bureaucrats by 50 percent at one go! For Pete's sake the rate of inflation is not that high though God knows the rate at which the PM's government is borrowing from the State Bank we may well be subjected to 50 percent inflation."
"What other decision taken by the PM is suspect?"
"The appointments he has made these three years past that have cost us billions."
"He says he signs many documents and the number of wrong decisions can be counted on one hand."
"He is right, but the cost of these wrong decisions are in billions of rupees."
"I see, so what do you suggest?"
"Gilani has made himself controversial, and he did it on his own, he had no help from the President."
"So?"
"There is a need for him to change."
