Pujab senior minister Raja Riaz Ahmed has said that in order to ensure equitable distribution of water and check theft, Punjab government would introduce a new monitoring system under which modern equipment would be installed at 150 locations to monitor flow and discharge of water into barrages and canals. He said besides supply of water, the new system would also be helpful in prevention of flood.
Raja Riaz Ahmed, who is also Irrigation minister, said that the new monitoring system might start working which would be installed with the cooperation of World Bank. He said that Irrigation Department was preparing feasibility report in this regard.
He said that Punjab government was taking solid measures to develop irrigation sector.
He said that the monitoring system would be fully mechanised which would improve overall capacity. He said that autonomous institutions like PIDA and PMU were working to check the incidents of water theft at the local level while participation of farmers through farmers association was being ensured in the distribution of water.
