Setting up of 'Punjab Food Authority' approved

In order to provide pure and hygienic essential items to people, Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif in a high level meeting, here on Tuesday, granted approval to establishing completely autonomous Punjab Food Authority. He informed the meeting that the decision to set up the authority was taken because provision of unadulterated and quality essential items is of vital importance.
He averred that the authority will be completely autonomous on the pattern of Punjab Health Commission. He further said that food-testing laboratories, to be set up under the authority, will be completely outsourced. Shahbaz stressed that views of the people should also be sought with regard to establishing the authority. He also said draft of law for the authority, after necessary amendments, should be presented to him.
Earlier, Secretary Food Irfan Elahi, while briefing the meeting, informed that chief minister has constituted a committee headed by chief secretary regarding establishment of Punjab Food Authority. The committee has formulated recommendations after consultation with stakeholders.
