Salmaan Taseer's murder: plot hatched to involve me, Shahbaz, says Nawaz

29 Jan, 2011

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif on Friday said that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani averted a plot to involve him and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Salmaan Taseer's murder case. "Efforts were afoot in power corridors of Islamabad to put the blame of Salmaan Taseer's murder on me and Shahbaz Sharif but Prime Minister Gilani foiled the ulterior design," he said.
He was addressing the launching ceremony of a book titled "Mera Quaid" here on Friday. Nawaz said Gilani was not part of the conspiracy hatched in a meeting in Islamabad. He said various ministers and advisors tried to paint the killing as political murder, followed by a protest in Shikarpur by a dozen people without having information that who is Salmaan Taseer.
Regarding the 10-point agenda of PML-N, Nawaz expressed his dissatisfaction over the progress so far made on its implementation. He said both President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani must implement the agenda on priority basis. He added that the government failure to implement the agenda would leave them with no option but to fulfil it after coming into power.
