THE RUPEE: dollar turns lower

Upward trend was witnessed on the money market on Friday as the rupee recovered modestly versus dollar in process of trading, dealers said. The rupee gained 10 paisa against dollar for buying at 85.70 and rose by 12 paisa for selling at 85.73, they said.
The dollar slipped to 82.70 yen from around 82.90 yen in late US trade, after initially rallying to as high as 83.22 yen on Thursday.
Indian rupee was trading at Rs 45.57 versus dollar, Malaysian ringgit was available at 3.0550 in terms of the greenback and Chinese yuan was at 6.5851.

According to the currency dealers, the rupee showed strength and recovers some of its earlier loss against the dollar on account of decline in buying support. The dollar was traded at Rs 86.00 and Rs 86.20, as its buying and selling rates, as compared to overnight closing rates of Rs 86.10 and Rs 86.25, respectively, they added.
On the other hand, the local currency remained unchanged against the pound sterling. The pound was purchased and sold at its last closing at Rs 136.50 and Rs 137.50, respectively, the dealers added.
The dollar opened at Rs 85.90 (buying) and Rs 86.10 (selling) against the last rate. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 85.90 (buying) and Rs 86.10 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 136.30 (buying) and Rs 136.70 (selling) against the previous rate. It did not witness any change in the evening session and closed at Rs 136.30 (buying) and Rs 136.70 (selling).
