A salutation camp of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was torched by unidentified miscreants in the limits of Saachal area police station on Friday. According to police sources, Safoora Goth and its adjacent areas on Friday wore a deserted look and fell into a strong grip of fear after wave of fresh violence erupted between two ethnic groups over a land issue.
All social and commercial activities in the areas came to a standstill after aerial firing and arson by unidentified miscreants that also torched a salutation camp of MQM, erected across the metropolis in view of its upcoming national solidarity meeting on January 30, 2011. Miscreants restored to aerial firing, forcing shopkeepers to pull down their shutters.
Residents of these areas, while talking to this scribe, said unabated ethnic clashes in these areas have made their lives difficult and urged the authorities concerned to take stern measures to facilitate them at optimum level in this regard.
Meanwhile, Zaman Town area police on Friday arrested Zaibunnisa's nephew over the charge of her murder. Police said that Saleem s/o Badr-ul-Haq, nephew of late Zaibunisa, confessed during initial course of investigation that he burnt his 70-year old aunt alive after snatching her gold bangles and rings on January 19. Station House Officer of the police station Atif Shah said that Saleem has confessed that he committed this illicit act because of hunger.
It is pertinent to mention here that on January 19, Zaibunisa was swaddled with a rope on a wooden strip and was burnt alive on. Atif said that the victim was a mother of three children and was living alone in a 60yards house located in Korangi, sector 51-A.
