1400 megawatts power shortfall

30 Jan, 2011

Power shortfall continued to lurk around 1400MW for second consecutive day with a fear of upward trend ahead due to drop in mercury in the country Pepco officials said. It may be noted that the power shortfall has improved gradually during the outgoing week from 1600MW in the early part of week to 1400MW at the weekend due to diminishing pressure on system with closure of electrical appliances.
However, the mercury has registered a sharp fall with predictions for rain in Northern parts of the country and chances are high that the gap may notch up accordingly. The power generation during 24 hours remained 10904MW against a demand of 12319MW. Power generation through hydel was recorded at 3301MW, followed by 1892MW through thermal, 5649MW through IPPs and 62MW through RPPs. Meanwhile, a total of 710MW was supplied to the KESC.
