Duties on garments import by Turkey: Baig, Prime Minister discuss issue

Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Federal Advisor on Textiles discussed with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in Karachi the proposed safeguard measures by the Turkish government imposing heavy duties on import of fabrics and garments from some countries including Pakistan.
Dr Baig requested PM to speak to Turkish Prime Minister to exclude Pakistan to support our economy hit by devastated flood. The Prime Minister promised to take up this matter on his return to Islamabad. Dr Baig also met Saleem Mandviwalla, Minister for State and Chairman Board of Investment (BoI) who spoke to Turkish Minister of Foreign Trade Zafer Caglayan and a Pakistani delegation with CEO TDAP is leaving for Turkey tomorrow. Dr Baig has taken up this matter with the concerned Ministry and is informed that it will take few months to complete the whole process and they have no intent to propose any provisional measures to enforce with immediate effect.-PR
