30 Jan, 2011

President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) Ghulam Mustafa Chaudhry has expressed concern on the inordinate delay in the initiation of Sialkot-Lahore Motorway Project and that it may not be started in near future due to shortage of funds.
Talking to Business Recorder on Saturday, he said Sialkot-Lahore Motorway is of immense importance for the socio-economic uplift of the entire region covering Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Lahore. SCCI president observed that Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab, a dynamic leader of the province, has always focused on development especially when it is connected with opening new avenue of business and economic opportunities. Sialkot-Lahore Motorway is one such project, which would revolutionise the area into hub of business activity by developing small industrial zones alongside motorway, he maintained.
He said that they fully recognise that government is facing shortage of funds due to which new projects are delayed but completely abolishing this important project would be a great setback for the entire region. He stressed the need to explore all resources of funding, including financial support from friends like China, for this important project. Ghulam Mustafa appealed to the chief minister not to abandon the motorway project, which he said, may be deferred and taken up on availability of funds.
