Members of the Athens Pakistani community were attacked by football hooligans in the centre of Athens while they were celebrating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Riot police in Athens had to intervene in clashes between Greek soccer club fans heading for a game and the Pakistani community celebrating Prophet Mohammed (PBUH)’s birthday, reports RT. Tear gas and stun grenades have been deployed to tackle the situation.
Around 800 Muslims were gathered to celebrate the event. While there have been no serious injuries or arrests, law enforcement had to use tough anti-riot methods to stop the violence.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi will be celebrated across Pakistan with religious zeal and fervor on Friday, December 1. The government has announced public holiday on Friday. Special security has been deployed across Sindh including Karachi to protect Eid Milad-un-Nabi processions.
