The rupee moved both ways on the currency market on Monday in process of trading, dealers said. The rupee shed three paisa against dollar for buying at 85.68 and came down with a slight loss of two paisa for selling at 85.72, they said.
However, as street protests in Cairo showed no sign of abating, investors remain worried that political upheaval could hit other Arab countries, potentially disrupting oil production and heightening diplomatic tensions in the region.

China's yuan closed lower versus dollar on Monday and finished the month of January with a fall as activity thinned ahead of the week-long Lunar New Year holiday that begins on Wednesday.
Indian rupee was trading at Rs 45.76 versus dollar, Malaysian Ringgit was available at 3.0600 in terms of the greenback and Chinese yuan was at 6.592 in relation to the US currency.

According to dealers, dollar was purchased and sold at Saturday's rates of Rs 85.80 and Rs 86.10, respectively.
On the other hand, the rupee remained under pressure against pound sterling, which witnessed appreciation because of decline in its supply, while it remained unchanged on selling side. The pound was traded at Rs 135.50 and Rs 136.50 on buying and selling counters as compared to Saturday's Rs 135.70 and Rs 136.50, respectively, dealers said.
The dollar opened at Rs 85.90 (buying) and Rs 86.10 (selling) against same last rates. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 85.90 (buying) and Rs 86.10 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 136.30 (buying) and Rs 136.70 (selling) against same previous rates. It did not witness any change in the evening session and closed at Rs 136.30 (buying) and Rs 136.70 (selling).
