Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in a meeting at Raiwind residence of PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif expressed concern over the country's economic situation and called upon the PPP-led government to take immediate measures in line with the PML-N 10-point agenda to steer the country out of prevailing crises.
The meeting chaired by PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Raja Zafarul Haq, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Iqbal Zafar Jhaggra, Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Sardar Sanaullah Zehri, Pir Sabir Shah, Salahuddin Tirmizi and others.
Sources in the PML-N told Business Recorder that the meeting, which lasted for about three hours, discussed the country's economic and political situation, PML-N's 10-point agenda and progress made on its implementation by the PPP government, PML-N reorganisation affairs, law and order situation and the case involving murder of two Pakistanis by the US official.
Sources claimed that the meeting expressed dissatisfaction over the progress made so far by the PPP led government towards the agenda. The PML-N leaders, who participated in the meeting, said the government had failed to show its commitment to implement the agenda that was aimed at steering the country out of multiple macroeconomic and budgetary crises. They were of the view that any extension to the deadline would not be in the national interest.
Sources further claimed that some of the participants of the meeting urged the party leadership to take bold decisions in the interest of the country as well as democracy. In the meeting, Secretary Public Prosecution Punjab Rana Maqbool and CCPO Lahore Aslam Tareen briefed the participants about progress made so far in the investigations of double murder case involving US official Raymond Davis.
Sources claimed that PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif asked his party leaders to refrain from issuing statements, as the matter is in the court of law. Nawaz also took his party leaders into confidence over his telephonic talks with US Ambassador Cameroon Munter.
The meeting, sources claimed also focused on law & order situation in Punjab and it was decided to install security cameras in cities across the province in a bid to maintain the law & order situation. It also decided to put in place foolproof security arrangements on upcoming Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH). Nawaz also asked the party leaders to ensure early completion of party's reorganisation process so that party elections from top to bottom could be held as early as possible.
The PML-N Quaid also appointed Sardar Sanaullah Zehri as Convener of Provincial Organising Committee PML-N Balochistan. After the meeting, PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal told reporters that the PML-N would go to the people, if no headway was made by the government on the agenda.
