Petitioner accuses police of favouring Raymond

02 Feb, 2011

A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) accusing the police of favouring accused Raymond Davis. Imran Haider, brother of Faizan Haider, who was gunned down by Raymond Davis, prayed that the respondents be directed to record witnesses and also ensure investigation on merit and by a high profile reputable police officers' team.
He said after registration of FIR on his complaint, the police was not recording his statement and statements of other eyewitnesses. He visited the police station for recording the statements time and again but the incharge investigation has refused to record the statements of the witnesses on the plea that they were under instructions of the high ups and was not in a position to record the statements without permission.
He further submitted that the investigation officer of inspector level is not in a position to face foreign indulgence and the case required a high profile investigation team comprised of reputable officers from police. He alleged that to favour the American accused, the police was trying to damage their case by not recording the witnesses.
