February to mid-March: sugarcane growers advised to complete spring sowing

Punjab Agriculture Department (PAD) has advised the sugarcane growers to complete spring sowing of their crop between first week of February to mid March for getting maximum per acre yield. In an advisory released for the guidance of the sugarcane growers, the department also suggested that only recommended varieties of sugarcane by the agriculture experts should be sown.
For early sowing, the advisory added, CPF-243, HSF-240, HSF-242, CP 77-400, CP-72-2086, CP 43-33 and CPF-237 are the most suited varieties, the advisory added. Similarly, it added that for late sowing COJ-84 was the approved variety of the government. SPF-245, SPF-234, SPF-213 and SPSG-25 are approved varieties of the agriculture department for medium term crops, while SPF-234 varieties are only approved for Rajanpur, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan districts, the advisory added. Experts of the agriculture department also advised that in case of timely sowing with other favourable situation, growers should sow 13-15,000 sets of plant with four buds per acre or 17-20,000 of sets of plant having three buds.
