Sharp fall in vegetable, fruit prices

The prices of vegetables have registered a sharp drop after arrival of new crop in the market. The price of onions in Karachi has declined from Rs 70 per kg prevailing during November to Rs 20 to Rs 30 per kg, depending on quality and size. Potato is the main diet of general public and in its prices have slipped from Rs 40 to Rs 45 per kg to Rs 18 to 25 per kg.
Green chillies are at Rs 70 per kg, tomato Rs 35 to Rs 45 per kg, garlic at Rs 160 per kg and ginger at Rs 150 per kg. Among fruits, bananas are available at Rs 40 to 50 per dozen, kinnu at Rs 60 to 150 per dozen, lemon Rs 58 to Rs 60 per kg, apples Rs 50 to Rs 80 per kg and carrot Rs 20 per kg.
