Government urged to allocate special zone for public protests

06 Feb, 2011

Public has urged upon the government to allocate a special zone for public to hold their protests, since the rallies passing through various parts of the city have left the Lahorites with panic and obliterated their activities.
The rallies were held in connection with Kashmir Day here on Saturday to express solidarity with the Kashmiri brethren showing that the entire Pakistani nation was united behind them in their just struggle.
To ensure security on this occasion, barricades and barbed wires were put at various points at Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam (Mall Road) earlier on the day when traffic was not allowed to pass through. The Mall road near Alhamra Hall, Assembly Hall, Fatima Jinnah Road, Beadon road, Hall road, temple Road, Fane Road, were also blocked for security arrangements.
The people of the area and shopkeepers of the Mall had been pressing upon the government to stop protests on the road, as it was hampering commercial activity and creating traffic hazards in the city.
This blockage on the Kashmir Day has created lot of problems for the masses, since general public was not allowed to cross these barricades even media men faced hurdles to cross such points, which created problems regarding their regular work. The people who were going on their jobs faced lot of problems too where they were unable to reach their destinations on time. Even various patients faced problems to reach hospitals to get medical treatment on time. More over, the residents residing in the adjacent areas of the Mall road were confined to their respective areas and were unable to move in any emergent situation. The general public was of the view that there should be separate public places like other parts of the civilised societies where protestors could be accommodated and hold their protests peacefully.
