New ways to get video online

07 Feb, 2011

Many web surfers have developed a serious passion for watching video online. It's no real surprise. After all, time flies when you're clicking from one video to the next. Plus, the number of available clips just seems to grow. Now, when you want to watch your favourite video when you're offline, the Firefox add-on Easy Youtube Video Downloader can help. It builds upon options for downloading films.
The tiny programme includes the option "download as" in every video window. Clicking on that, one gets a pull-down menu with choices for format and resolution of the video to be downloaded. Those options range from the FLV Flash format to MP4.
In MP4, the add-on supports downloads of HD material in either 720 or 1080p resolution, if those are available. Anyone just interested in the audio track of a video can store that as an MP3.
A slightly more flexible alternative for saving videos and images from other video portals is the Download-Helper add-on, also free. As soon as the programme recognises a video that can be downloaded, the add-ons symbol begins rotating in the navigation bar of the Firefox browser. All it takes is a click to download the video in the desired format.
