Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik has offered to resign if a judicial commission or parliamentary committee established security lapse after a detailed probe in the killing of Shahbaz Bhatti, Minister for Minority Affair. Winding-up the debate in the National Assembly on the killing of his Cabinet colleague, Malik said security of late Shahbaz Bhatti was enhanced because of threats to his life.
The minister said that Bhatti did not allow the security men to accompany him while visiting his mother. This tragic incident might have not taken place had Bhatti allowed security guards to accompany him that day, the minister added. Malik said that he would suggest Prime Minister Gialni for constitution of either judicial commission or parliamentary committee to probe the case.
The minister said terrorists have tried their best to harm Pakistan, but have been defeated by the forces on western borders of the country. Malik said that he is the next on the hit list of Tehrik-e-Taliban prior to Sherry Rehman and Fauzia Wahab. We will fight till eradicating last Taliban.
The minister called for forging unity among all the political forces to protect the future of coming generations and to achieve lasting peace in the country. Security and foreign policy are the two issues which require consensus by all the forces otherwise Taliban and extremists would be all over the country.
Attacking the Punjab government in response to criticism and demand of his resignation by Pakistan Muslim League (N) Parliamentarians, Malik said why no one from the Punjab government had resigned on the killing of former Governor Punjab Salman Taseer at the hand of head constable, special branch of Punjab Police. Apart from this a number of other terrorism incidents had also taken place in the jurisdiction of Punjab during last couple of year but no one had resigned. He said if the PML-N members are asking him to resign, they should also make similar demand from the Punjab government.
The minister said that he was ready to give a detailed briefing to in-camera session of the Parliament on activities of Taliban and the measures being taken by the government. He said some madaris in south Punjab are sanctuaries of terrorists and it is need of the hour that every one should come out from the state of denial that nothing such is happening in southern part of Punjab.
