A three-day national immunisation campaign against polio starts today in Punjab. Health Department has constituted more than 38 thousands vaccination teams which would visit door-to-door for administrating polio vaccine drops to the children. Polio drops would also be given to the travelling children at the exit points of the cities, railway stations, toll plazas of highways and airports.
In this connection, Secretary Health Punjab Fawad Hassan Fawad has said that government is taking all necessary steps for complete eradication of polio virus and the officers of Health Department have been given special task for making the polio campaign a success.
He said strict monitoring system has been evolved and the representatives of international institutions like WHO and Unicef also monitoring the campaign. "The current anti-polio campaign is a challenge and the District Officers Health have been directed to ensure hundred percent coverage in their respective districts", he added.
He said zero tolerance policy has been adopted in this regard. Besides for awareness of the people, health department would also distribute handbills, pertaining preventive measures and other information regarding dengue fever through mobile vaccination teams in Lahore. Health department has also extended the facility of polio drops in all the hospitals, health centres and dispensaries.
