Lawyers observe 'Iftikhar Day'

Lawyers of the city observed "Iftikhar Day" here Wednesday to condemn his suspension on March 09, 2007 by the then President General Pervez Musharraf (Retd). The black flags were hoisted on the bar rooms and a general house meeting was also held in this regard.
The lawyers appreciated movement for restoration of the judges and Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry pinning high hopes at him. LHCBA president Ashgar Ali Gill addressing the meeting said that Justice Chaudhry did not bow down before the command of the military dictator for rule of law and independence of judiciary. He appealed the Supreme Court to decide cases of 18th and 19th constitutional amendments so that appointment of judges in higher and superior judiciary as it was necessity of the time for dispensation of speedy justice to the masses.
Former LHCBA presidents Ahmed Awais and Malik Saeed Hasan, Advocate Allah Bukhsh Gondal and others addressed the bar members. Judicial Activism Panel (JAP) also held a meeting to mark 'Iftikhar Day'. The JAP condemned March 09, 2007 acts of Musharraf. JAP chairman Muhammad Azhar Siddique said that the government was not obeying orders of the courts, which is condemnable.
